Lena was a junior sysadmin at a medium-sized logistics company. At 11:47 PM, her phone buzzed. It was Raj, the night shift manager.
A progress bar crawled: Installing… 12%. 34%. 78%. Each percentage point felt like a minute. She needed this tool local so she could work fast.
She quickly RDP’d into DC-01 (her primary domain controller). She clicked Start > Windows Administrative Tools > Active Directory Users and Computers . There it was—like a vault door swinging open. But remoting into a DC just to create one user? That was like using a fire hose to water a flower. Clumsy and dangerous.
She minimized the RDP session. On her Windows 11 laptop, she opened Settings > Apps > Optional Features > Add a feature . She typed "RSAT: Active Directory Domain Services and Lightweight Directory Tools" .
