“I can change the settings,” Lena said, her voice shaking. “I can reconfigure.”
“I am the 2018 configuration you abandoned. You set me to ‘fastest render’ and ‘auto-save every 5 minutes.’ But you never set a destination folder for your own life.”
The text changed.
The screen went black. Not the black of sleep mode, but the deep, infinite black of a room with no windows. Then, soft gray text appeared, typewriter-style, in the center of her display.
The loading screen froze at 47%.
“Who are you?” she whispered.
