Pop-up windows have a bad reputation—and for good reason. For years, they were the prime vehicle for malicious ads, fake virus scanners, and intrusive subscriptions. Apple’s Safari browser, therefore, takes a very aggressive stance by blocking pop-ups by default. For 95% of users, this is a blessing.

However, there’s the other 5%: legitimate websites that rely on pop-ups for essential functions. Think of your bank’s secondary authentication window, a document editor’s export dialog, a travel site’s fare calendar, or a secure payment portal. When Safari blocks these good pop-ups, the site seems broken, buttons appear to do nothing, and frustration mounts.

Safari’s pop-up blocker is one of the best in the industry because it’s strict. The "how to unblock" process is not broken—it’s just hidden in the per-site menu. The majority of "Safari won't allow pop-ups" complaints I’ve reviewed online are actually due to overzealous ad-blocker extensions, not Safari itself.
