is already checked out, dreaming of his failed acting career while wearing a pink bowtie. Casey (Lizzy Caplan) is trying to be cool, but her competitive streak with a fan-fic writer goes supernova. Roman (Martin Starr) —in his element for once—drops all pretense of being a “hard sci-fi elitist” to geek out over a prop blaster. It’s the happiest we’ve ever seen him, which is terrifying. Ron (Ken Marino) sees the convention as a “market” to sell Party Down’s “brand.” He tries to enforce a “no talking about the lore” rule. It goes about as well as you’d expect. The Guttenberg Factor The secret weapon of this episode is Steve Guttenberg playing himself. In most sitcoms, a celebrity cameo feels like a desperate ratings grab. If you look at the episode title and think, “Oh, the Police Academy guy?” — yes. That guy. And he’s probably the most normal person in this entire 22-minute trainwreck. The team is hired to cater a “SatriP” convention. For the uninitiated (and for Ron Donald, who is blissfully, painfully uninitiated), that’s a Star Trek/Star Wars hybrid fan convention.
