On screen, a low-resolution Rick looked directly at the camera. His eyes were just two black pixels.
“Yes we do,” Rick sighed. He reached into his coat and pulled out a pristine, unmarked Blu-ray disc. “I keep a master copy in my pancreas. Always pre-order, Morty. Never pirate.”
The monster lunged. Rick grabbed a plasma rifle. “Standard definition scum!” he yelled, blasting it. But the beam passed right through. “It’s not physical, Morty! It’s a codec leak! We need to re-encode reality before the bitrate drops to 144p and we all turn into pixelated blobs!”
Summer screamed as her left arm turned into a mosaic of jagged squares. “I’m buffering!”
