If you’ve been in this field for more than a week, you know the feeling. You’re hunting for a vein. The tourniquet’s been on too long. The patient is anxious. You finally get a flash—but it’s sluggish. The vein feels soft, maybe a little flat, or worse, it’s there one second and gone the next.
