Within a year, Uram had changed. Mulberry groves spread beyond the old borders. Farmers from three valleys came to learn the reeling wheel. The silkworms, crossbred with wild strains, grew fat and golden again. And Lina, at seventeen, became the youngest Master Weaver in history—not because she kept the secret, but because she let it go.
By the time Lina was sixteen, the village had become a museum. The young people left for cities with factories and railways. The looms grew dusty.
